For the 2018 Program Year, the Cost category will make up 10% of your MIPS Final Score. Cost is mandated to move to 30% of your MIPS Final Score for Program Year 2019. This gradual shift makes understanding the Cost category, and the composing measures, increasingly important when trying to stay competitive within the MIPS quality program. In addition to increasing the Cost category weight, the Final Rule also increased the 2018 PY final score threshold to 15 points (from 3 points in 2017) while maintaining the exceptional performance threshold at 70 points or higher. Achieving the threshold of 15 points requires MIPS eligible clinicians to fully participate in at least one of the MIPS categories to avoid the 5% negative adjustment factor in payment year 2020.
